1. Dust

Dust is inevitable. Over time it will build up throughout your home including your air ducts. Too much build up in your system reduces the quality of the air you breathe. If you notice an excess amount of dust on surfaces and furniture then it might mean you are due for a cleaning.

2. Smoke Residue

Smoke residue build-up is a real concern for commercial buildings. For example, specific casinos allowed indoor smoking and some still allow it. This can also occur in restaurants and high production kitchens where burning oil causes smoke residue build up in the ductwork.

3. Mold

Your air ducts are an ideal environment for mold to thrive. Anywhere dark and contains humidity would be a perfect place for mold to grow and spread. Having mold in your ducts is not healthy because the circulated air will carry mold spores. Breathing in mold spores will lead to respiratory issues in the near future. Additionally, if you see a sign of mold elsewhere in your home, it is very possible that it has accumulated in your air ducts as well.

4. Pollen

The change in seasons here in Michigan can be very harsh, especially to those with allergies. Pollen is originated outdoors, however, it always makes its way into your home and more importantly your ducts. Pollen built up in your system is continuously recirculating and is being blown into your air. Where your home is meant to be comforting can quickly turn into irritation. Pollen is 1 one the 8 things you don’t want to find in your ducts for this very reason.

5. Pet Hair/Dander

Do you have a family pet like a cat or a dog? Every animal sheds in some sort of way, but where does that fur end up? Vacuuming on a regular basis usually collects most of the shedded fur but it’s possible that it has made its way into your ducts. Double check your vents, you might run into a furry surprise!

6. Bugs

Bugs are a part of life, but they shouldn’t be a part of your home. Especially the part that carries the fresh air to your home or business. Whether dead or alive, a bug-free duct system will prevent odors, deterioration and contribute to healthier indoor air quality.

7. Wildlife

Wildlife like rats, mice, and bats can find their way into your ducts in search of a warm place for the winter. Amber’s Air Duct Cleaning has come across many wildlife incidents in many homeowner ducts. Though it may be a sad situation for the wildlife, no homeowner should breathe in what they might carry. Regular inspections and cleanings will ensure that no animals (dead or alive) are calling your ducts home.

8. Construction Debris

At some point or another, your home must have been under construction. Construction debris is very common to find clogged in your air ducts. Debris for example, sawdust, wood and metal scraps, plaster, and drywall often gets brushed aside and never taken care of. Breathing in these construction debris can be harmful to your and your family.

Amber’s Air Duct Cleaning truly has seen it all. From dead mice and bats to a chunk of drywall found in the ducts, these things are not meant to be in there. A regular inspection and cleaning will ensure you and your family are breathing from the healthy and clean lungs of your home!
